Cable provider Suddenlink Inc. is finally on the south
side of the Red River in Rapides Parish.
The cable TV, internet and phone provider held a grand
opening for its retail store in the Alexandria Mall on
Wednesday, adding a presence to its longstanding office on
Donahue Ferry Road in Pineville.
"Alexandria has been wanting this," said Alexandria
Mayor Jacques M. Roy. "We love Pineville, but people wanted
to have one here. I hope folks appreciate Suddenlink's
commitment to being here."
"It took us awhile to get the right fit," said
Suddenlink General Manager Glenn Parker. "We looked at
several different properties, but we kept coming back to
this one."
The retail store is next to Burlington Coat Factory in
the mall. In addition to being able to pay bills and set up
service, the store features interactive, hands-on displays
of Suddenlink products.
It will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday
and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
"Obviously, we want to be more customer-friendly,"
Parker said. "This is a place where folks will be able to
test drive our products. They can get on the Internet, look
at our high-def products. We can take care of all their
needs."
Suddenlink has been trying to establish a location in
Alexandria for about two years, Parker said, but searching
for the right property and caution because of the economy
slowed the process.
The mall was a good fit, he said, because of its retail
environment.
The opening Wednesday is part of a push by Suddenlink
for more of its newly designed retail stores. Suddenlink
already had a retail store in Natchitoches. It opened one in
Ruston Monday and will open another in Lake Charles today..
